Mercury Music Prize 2002: Ms Dynamite
Mercury Music Prize
Dozen names announced

MercuryColdplay continue to reign in the UK music world - they have been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize while Blur are snubbed.

The full list of nominations was announced this morning - the prize is open to all types of music including pop, rock, dance, folk, jazz and contemporary classical.

The albums up for the gong, based solely on the music, are...

Athlete: ‘Vehicles and Animals’
Eliza Carthy: ‘Angelicana’
Coldplay: ‘A Rush Of Blood To The Head’
The Darkness: ‘Permission to Land’
Floetry: ‘Floetic’
Lemon Jelly: ‘Lost Horizons’
Radiohead: ‘Hail To The Thief’
Dizzee Rascal: ‘Boy In Da Corner’
Soweto Kinch: ‘Conversations With The Unseen’
The Thrills: ‘So Much For The City’
Martina Topley-Bird: ‘Quixotic’
Terri Walker: ‘Untitled’

We are very pleased with inclusion of Martina but are surprised that Blur have been omitted from the shortlist.

Last year Ms Dynamite won with her album ‘A Little Deeper’. (It should have been The Coral’s debut!)

This year’s winner will be announced at a ceremony on 09 September where judges will meet to discuss the albums shortlisted - the winner will be decided on the night.
