Music of Black Origin's 10th Anniversary

R&B singer Lemar took the plaudits with two awards at this year's Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards.

Lemar, who reached the final of the BBC talent show 'Fame Academy', had been up for five awards but walked off with the Best Album and Act of the Year gongs at the ceremony held last night at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The singer's album 'Time To Grow' beat off challenges from the likes of Mariah Carey and U.S. neo-soul singer John Legend, while Joss Stone and Estelle lost out to him in the best act category.

This year was the 10th anniversary of the MOBOs which are voted for by the public.

London rapper Sway picked up the Best Hip Hop award but lost out to Kano in the Best UK newcomer section which also included Lethal B, Nate James and Roll Deep.

Bob Marley's son Damian was named the Best Reggae Act, Rhian Benson took the Best Jazz Act award and John Legend won the Best R&B gong.

Meanwhile Snoop Dogg took the honours for Best Video with 'Drop It Like It's Hot'.
