Placebo caught 'Sleeping With Ghosts' |
|
Miscellaneous: 'Meteora - Ghosts - Gone - World' (Various)
Linkin Park, Placebo, The Cardigans, Sir Macca
Linkin Park
‘Meteora’
(WEA)
If you are 15 (or under), then the issues raised here make sense; if you are over that age group, this is rap/nu-metal by numbers that will excite you as much as grass-cutting. It actually is no more than very loud pop music... Still, even if only half the people who bought ‘Hybrid Theory’ dig into their pockets for this one – that’s 6 million sales. Frightening.

Placebo
‘Sleeping With Ghosts’
(Hut)
Placebo’s fourth album, in a nutshell and its title, indicates return to the sound of the debut album; a bit too early for self-prescribed nostalgia, perhaps? It is amazing they’ve come this far after being cool for about a nano-second… Well, the same old krap, then.
5/10

The Cardigans
‘Long Gone Before Daylight’
(Polydor)
After a long time – we hoped they thought better of making another album but this time a pessimist got disappointed – The Cardigans’ release new album with a pretentious title. ABBA were brilliant, claims our punk expert (relative of Johnny Rotten, actually) but, do we need more Swedish pap-rock? Haven’t we got enough of our local (anti) talent to import on top?
To cap it, Nina Person ain’t attractive enough to be forgiven for mediocre songs.

Paul McCartney
‘Back In The World’
(Parlophone)
Sir Macca and another live album… yeah, there may be songs he never recorded-performed-whatever before, but – do we need to hear ‘em again?
If you are a fan you gonna buy this: better still, you can have my copy!
