Raging Speedhorn: 'How The Great Have Fallen'

Raging Speedhorn: rocking harder and furious

The state of Brit-metal was best demonstrated during last week’s Download Festival when hardly one tenth of all bands were domestic. Some representing this fair isle are really great - Biffy Clyro, InMe, Queenadreena - although it certainly is not on par with the Yanks’ offerings. Then again, the above acts are not truly - Metal…

Serious contenders for a number of years have been Raging Speedhorn who have just released their album No. 3, ‘How The Great Have Fallen’. Alas, it comes under the shadow of departure of vocalist Frank Regan. “Raging Speedhorn still being one of Britain's hardest working bands, Frank no longer feels able to commit fully to the rigorous schedule, and has taken the difficult decision to leave the band,” reads the notice.

From the opening ‘A Different Shade of S**t’, this is a ride that makes love to your psyche with the sensitivity of a steamroller! It is relentless attack on your cells that can cause a permanent damage if you are over the hill of 30!? Having been through some tough times, ‘Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory’ and ‘Don’t Let The Bastard Grind You Down’ sound defiantly optimistic. ‘Slay The Coward’, on the other hand, simply pulps your guts!

At Donington’s Download Festi the band appeared with a temporary replacement: former Hard to Swallow, Iron Monkey and Helvis vocalist Bloody Kev.

8/10
