Pink's atop the Brit-singles
Takin’ it Pink
Pink makes it to the top of the Brit-charts

Pink’s third single from the February released album, ‘M!ssundaztood’ (certified triple platinum Stateside), ‘Just Like A Pill’, has landed straight atop the Brit-charts; the lady’s previous mega-hit, ‘Get The Party Started’ – that recently won her 2 MTV Video Music Awards, The Best Female and The Best Dance – was kept off the top position by pop-necrophilia of the late Beatle George Harrison’s reissued ‘My Sweet Lord’ earlier this year.

“That’s incredible,” the Philadelphia-born Alicia Moore shrieks with delight, “I can’t believe it! I’ve had a fair amount of success but never dreamt that’s gonna go this far!”

Pink’s recently filmed a cameo role in chick-action-flick sequel, ‘Charlie’s Angels 2’ and is due to contribute a track to the film’s soundtrack. She pops up during a motocross scene, which is fitting, considering her boyfriend is motocross daredevil Carey Hart.

You are a star now but what was the biggest surprise when you finally got into the music business?

“How hard you had to work,” the lady sighs, “that’s the first thing; it’s none of partying and having fun but hard, hard work. Then, that is a business without any room for sentimentality. You work until you see, hopefully, the beginnings of success and then you start to work even harder. Alas, once you are here there is not much choice you can make.”

“But, you know,” Pink lowers her voice, “the most important thing is to remain honest. There is no pretence on my album, it is all true, every single word, lived and as painful as it sounds.”

Walking dad

A parallel exists between Eminem and Pink and it is not only based on them being white and hip-hopingly odd: their entire careers are carefully crafted bad-boy/girl image and both are divorced from reality. Each artist might sport feisty public personality but is rather nice and polite person in a close encounter.

You often give credit to your dad; what has been his influence in your life?

“He is the greatest, he is my main man,” she becomes so animated to rock the armchair, “he thought me honesty. He is a Vietnam War veteran who knows the truth and believes in telling it. I’ve been asked to go and perform in Middle East and I almost went before Christmas. I want to play everywhere… I’ve got a friend who is serving in Afghanistan right now and have been sending him parcels and music; yeah, I’d love to go and perform there.”

“My dad raised me like a fighter and not a quitter. And he’s taught me to be honest, a trademark that has landed him in plenty of trouble. Whatever it is wrong he is writing to the White House! Yeah, I like to use my music like that!”

Down boy

Observing from the outside your life has vacated everydayness; are your emotional needs satisfied?

“Yes, I have a man in my life and he is able to be honest,” Pink answers without specifics. “I used to go out with all these guys who couldn’t be honest and tell the truth… I love boys, that’s my problem, and have always fallen for the wrong ones; each individual is different and I can’t speak in more general terms but man’s inability to tell truth is something that really drives me crazy.”

“You know the most romantic thing my man did was send me flowers without knowing where in the world I was. And, what I respect even more is that he wouldn’t tell me how he found me! So romantic and mysterious, so absolutely lovely!”

How about his parents, you don’t really look like a girl he could take to meet the parents?

“Probably not but he did and thankfully they were open-minded and didn’t prejudge me. A lot of people do, see you as one thing and decide what kind of a person you are. When ‘Can’t Take Me Home’ came out all people saw was this pink-haired, R&B chick that could take care of a big gimmick, but there was much more to me than that. I’m a music lover and I don’t know one person who likes only one kind of music. I love Craig David but I adore Coldplay! They rock, they are simply the best, in any genre!”

“Yeah, I got this reputation of a ‘man-eater’ which wasn’t true, it is just that in life it is hard to find yourself and understand yourself but when you have to explain it to other people, if becomes really difficult. I’m more articulate in my lyrics and poetry than I’m talking about it. I offend a lot of people all the time. Everybody in this business is diplomatic and I’m not, I’m not taught to be, but honest. Truth hurts and not many people can handle it. But, I always make up for it, do something to soften the blow.”

“But I need to keep it real. There is nothing worse when you hear something really fake that is popular!”

“And, yeah, I do want to have more tattoos; I’m on my eighth now!”
