Timbaland & Magoo second album is such a slick affair it is slippery

‘Indecent Proposal’ by Timbaland & Magoo is such a slick affair that is branching out of its own genre. The second album by this two is such a pleasurable listening experience that it really disarms you with its insta-appeal. It also gets you muscles into gear ever so often although still manages to tickle your brainus operendi.

It is four years since the duo’s ‘Welcome To Our World’ album and Timbaland has spent the interim rising from hugely talented newcomer to international producer of planet-sized reputation. But all his previous work pales in comparison because it appears Timba’s kept the best beatz and samples for own usage. This simply surpasses score of everything he’s done before by being more innovative, more daring and more IT! The trademark two-step, stop-start rhythms are here but bigger, brighter, bombier.

There are some heavy guests on the album, including Jay-Z, Petey Pablo, Ludicris but the most important is Aaliyah, in her last recorded work. ‘I Am Music’ sounds very poignant after the diva met her tragic end last year. Otherwise, from the single ‘All Y’All’, via ‘In Your Night’, ‘Party People’, ‘Serious’, ‘Baby Bubba’, it’s a party time, more fun, more self-advertising, a touch of gospel, a scent of hot sexiness surfaces with Ms Jade on ‘In Time’… It deals with clichés charmingly…

It is bumping, grinding set of almost indecent urban perfection. That could be its biggest problem, it is so well groomed it crosses the median between hip-hop and R&B. It is so nicely and finely tuned that its ‘Parental Warning’ sticker is an overreaction over few ‘MFs’. How can you get worked up about few swear words, the major issue should be the gun-culture backing profanities…

‘Indecent Proposal’ it ain’t, it’s hood on its best behaviour. A solid album that is on the safe and shiny side.
